The Audition Process

Prepare a short solo piece that demonstrates your stated playing ability. You can perform with or without accompaniment. (Percussion candidates do NOT need to include a solo piece, just what is in the orchestral excerpts document).
Download and prepare the orchestral excerpts for your instrument(s) (link HERE), following any instructions given.
Record both the short solo and your orchestral excerpts as your audition video and then upload to YouTube following these instructions;
1. Go to www.youtube.com
2. Sign in or create an account
3. Click Upload
4. Set privacy setting to ‘unlisted’ (this is very important)
5. Upload your audition clip. You will need to copy the video URL (link) and enter it into the application form.
Fill in APPLICATION FORM NOW CLOSED and submit the copying and pasting the video URL (link) into the application form under ‘Recording link’. Make sure that you receive an acknowledgement copy of your answers via email when you submit the form – please contact us if you don’t.

Remember your school music department may be able to assist with recording if necessary.
You will NOT be able to finally submit the application form before you have your audition recorded and ready.
Pay the audition fee of $15 to 03-0855-0333791-000 (Te Puna Wai o Waipapa Hagley College) – please use applicant’s full name and instrument as reference. PLEASE NOTE BOTH THE BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER AND THE FEE AMOUNT HAVE CHANGED SINCE LAST YEAR
Course fees for 2026 are: $300 per student; $500 for 2 students from the same family.
