Soloist

Rachel Thomas

Following NZSSSO, Rachel achieved very high grades throughout her Mus B. performance degree at Canterbury. In 2016 she became the first percussionist ever to win the Open Champion of Champions at NZ’s Brass Band Championship. This means she won the open percussion category and then beat all the winners of all the brass solo categories. In 2017 she was soloist with the National Band of NZ for their European tour and a latest CD recording. Rachel is currently based in Auckland while she completes a medical degree. She has performed with iconic NZ Percussion Group From Scratch and the Auckland Philharmonia plus others.
